Terms of Service
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a contract between you and Covey (“Covey”, “we”, “us”) governing your use of the Covey website, applications, and services (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy and Children's Privacy Notice, which are incorporated by reference.
2. Eligibility and parental accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter a contract to create a parent account.
- You may only add a child profile for a child for whom you are the parent or legal guardian, and by doing so you represent that you have the authority to consent to the collection and use of that child's information as described in the Children's Privacy Notice.
- Child profiles are not accounts held by children. Children may use the Service only through a profile created and supervised by their parent or guardian.
- You are responsible for keeping your password, your family code, and your children's PINs confidential, and for all activity under your family account.
3. AI providers
The Service works by sending screened messages to a third-party AI model provider.
Included AI
- By default your family uses AI that Covey provides through Anthropic, at no extra charge, so the Service works without any setup.
- Included AI is subject to fair-use limits on the number of messages per family per day and per month, shown in your dashboard. We may change these limits, or suspend included AI for accounts that appear automated or abusive.
Your own AI provider (optional)
- You may instead connect a provider you choose (for example Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter, or a server you operate) using your own account. Messages are then sent to that provider under your account, without Covey's message limits.
- Your use of your own provider is governed by that provider's terms and usage policies, which you are responsible for reviewing and complying with, including any age-related requirements for content generated for minors. You are billed by that provider directly, and Covey does not control its pricing, availability, or outputs.
- We store your API keys encrypted and use them solely to process your family's requests. You can remove a key, or switch back to included AI, at any time.
4. What Covey does and does not do
Covey applies rule-based checks and AI-based review to messages before and after they reach your provider, enforces the limits you configure, stores transcripts for your review, and sends you alerts. These safeguards materially reduce, but cannot eliminate, the chance that a child encounters inappropriate content or that a concerning message goes unflagged. AI systems make mistakes. The Service is a tool to assist your supervision, not a replacement for it.
The Service is not a medical, psychological, counseling, or emergency service, and alerts are not clinical assessments. If you believe a child is in danger, contact your local emergency number or the resources on our Safety page.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to, and not to allow anyone using your family account to:
- attempt to bypass, disable, or reverse-engineer the safety filters or parental controls;
- use the Service to generate content that is illegal, sexual involving minors, harassing, or that violates your AI provider's policies;
- add a child profile for a child you are not legally responsible for, or use the Service to monitor an adult without consent;
- probe, scan, or overload the Service, or access other families' data;
- resell or operate the Service for third parties without a written agreement with us.
6. Your content and our license
You and your children retain ownership of the messages you submit. You grant Covey a limited license to store, process, transmit to the AI provider in use, and display that content to you, solely to operate the Service. We do not use your family's conversations to train AI models, and we do not sell them.
7. Fees
If the Service, or part of it, is offered for a fee, pricing, billing cycles, trials, and cancellation terms will be shown at the point of purchase and form part of these Terms. Provider usage fees are separate and paid to the provider.
8. Termination and deletion
You can delete your family account at any time from Settings; this permanently deletes all parent and child data as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or create risk for children, other users, or Covey. Sections 4, 6, 9, 10, and 11 survive termination.
9. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COVEY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND DOES NOT WARRANT THAT CONTENT FILTERING WILL BE COMPLETE OR ACCURATE, THAT ALERTS WILL BE TIMELY OR DELIVERED, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COVEY AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE, AND OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR USD $100. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at privacy@example.com and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for 30 days.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will notify parent accounts by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before it takes effect and may ask you to accept the new version. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the change.
