Children's Privacy Notice
1. Why you are reading this
Covey lets children chat with an AI assistant inside limits that you set. Because children under 13 (and, in some places, under 16) use the Service, we must tell you what we collect from them, how we use it, and how to exercise your rights, and we must obtain your consent before collecting it.
2. How we obtain and verify consent
- Only an adult can create a Covey account, and only that adult can add a child profile.
- At sign-up you affirm that you are the parent or legal guardian and tick a consent box that links to this notice.
- We then email you a confirmation link. Clicking it confirms your email address and your consent (the “email-plus” method). Until you confirm, we remind you in your dashboard.
- We keep a record of the date, time, and version of the terms you accepted.
You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting the child profile or your family account in Settings, or by emailing privacy@example.com. Withdrawing consent deletes the child's information.
3. What we collect from children
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| The messages your child types in the chat | To send a screened version to your AI provider, show you the transcript, and detect safety issues |
| The AI's replies | To show your child and keep in the transcript for you |
| Safety classifications and topics for each message | To raise alerts and build the Insights page |
| Time-of-use and message counts | To enforce the limits you set |
| A hashed PIN | So your child can sign in to their profile |
| Topic-unlock requests | So your child can ask you to allow something that was blocked |
The child's name, age range, avatar, and interests are provided by you, not collected from the child. We do not collect a child's photo, voice, precise location, contacts, or persistent device identifiers, and the AI is instructed never to ask a child for personal information. If a child types a phone number, email, or street address, Covey removes it before anything is sent to the AI provider and notifies you.
4. How children's information is used and shared
- Used only to operate the features you configured and to keep your child safe. Never for marketing, advertising, profiling, or model training.
- Screened message text is sent to the AI model that answers your child. By default that is Anthropic, acting as our service provider under terms that do not permit it to train AI models on the content. If you connect your own AI provider, the text goes to that provider under your account and its privacy policy instead. In both cases we send no identifiers about the child.
- Shared with our infrastructure, email, and SMS vendors only as needed to deliver the Service, under contracts that prohibit any other use.
- Disclosed to authorities only when the law requires it or a child's safety demands it.
5. Your rights as a parent
- Review: every conversation is available in your dashboard under Conversations.
- Download: Settings → Your data exports everything, including your child's messages.
- Delete: remove a child profile (Kids → child → Remove) or the whole family (Settings). Deletion is immediate and permanent.
- Refuse further collection while keeping the account: pause the child from the dashboard.
- Change settings at any time: blocked topics, limits, strictness, homework mode.
We will not condition a child's use of the Service on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary.
6. Retention and security
Children's conversations are retained for 365 days for your review and then deleted. All other child information is deleted when you delete the profile or family. Security measures are described in the Privacy Policy.
7. Transparency to the child
Covey tells children, in age-appropriate language, that their grown-up can read their chats and that the assistant is a computer program, not a person. We believe children deserve to know they are supervised.
